Pantone’s ‘Radiant Orchid’ has been the statement colour of this year and it’s easy to see why. Leatrice Eiseman from the Pantone Colour Institute said: ‘Radiant orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society. An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, radiant orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health.’ This makes it the ideal choice of colour for a dining room, where entertaining loved ones is the main function.

Light finish furniture is an ideal accompaniment to this trend, as it will give your dining room a more spacious and airy feel. Consider something like our Windsor oak one door one drawer wine cabinet (8) and a matching table from the Windsor oak range.

You can afford to be dramatic with your lighting choice in the dining room as, if you’re anything like me, it will only be used on special occasions when a bit of extravagance is okay. A chandelier, such as the one featured from Dunelm Mill (1) is certain to turn the heads of your guests for all the right reasons.

A statement piece of wall art will draw the eye and give the room a well put together feel. I’ve picked plum roses on canvas from Debenhams (7) but there are plenty of purple hued pieces to pick from on the high street at the moment.

A purple table runner, such as the Hoxton runner from John Lewis (2) will look great against a crisp, light finish dining table. If you need a new dining table, you can browse our oak tables by clicking here. Plum coloured place mats, such as the ones featured from Next (5) look great with purple bowls, such as the ones from John Lewis (4) and the purple glass from Debenhams (3). Finish off the orchid theme of your table settings with a few brightly coloured candle holders, such as the hurricane optic candle holder from Marks & Spencer (6) – the number you’ll need to complete the look will depend on the size of your table. If you have a round table, you may only need one, with a 6ft long rectangular table you may need two or three so that the decoration does not become swamped by all the glasses and crockery.
