Clean lines accessorised with white, black and natural textures and colours are the cornerstones of the Nordic interiors trend that is all over the high street at the moment.

First things first, let’s start with your furniture. To reflect the modern feel of the Nordic trend, light and contemporary bedroom furniture is essential – it’s the base from which you build the whole look and, as with houses, if the foundations aren’t great then the whole thing falls apart. Consider pieces such as our Tavistock Oak Lamp Table with Drawer (3) as it is light, smooth and contemporary. For other pieces of oak bedroom furniture in our Tavistock range, click here.

Now that you have your furniture sorted, let’s soften the room up with some soft furnishings. The right duvet set is vital as it is the first thing your eye will be drawn to when you enter your bedroom, so to keep with the colour themes in the Nordic trend, go for something like the Egyptian Cotton Duvet Cover from John Lewis (7). Make it cosy and inviting with a faux fur throw, such as the one featured from Marks & Spencer (10), draped over the top. For extra comfort, pop a couple of cushions in front of your pillows. The Polar Fur Cream Cushion from Next (2) adds to the natural textures inherent in the Nordic design trend, and the Copenhagen Chevron Cushion from John Lewis (1) will add depth with the black geometric shapes – a big feature of the Nordic trend. A rug is essential for a well put together and designed room and the one featured from John Lewis (5) is ideal with its clean lines and black and white colouring. This rug is a design investment; however, if your purse strings don’t quite stretch that far, there are plenty of black and white geometric style rugs on the high street at the moment so you’re sure to find one that will fit in with your budget.

And finally, it’s time for those little personal and decorative touches that make a house a home. The Rattan Storage Basket from Habitat (4) is perfect for storing laundry and is natural looking so fits in well with the Nordic trend. A piece of art, such as the Patel Large Natural Handmade Paper Wall Art from Habitat (6) will tie the look of the room together. Remember, you will have to look at the art every day so choose something you really love. Keep your trinkets safe in the Resin Box from John Lewis (8) and complete the look with the soothing light of a candle with the Conran Geometric Tealight Holder from Marks & Spencer (9). Try using a scented tealight to fill your room with relaxing fragrances like lavender or rose.
